After The Release Of Hot Rocks 1964-1971 In 1971, An album Titled Necrophilia Was Compiled Which Should Have Been The Next Release Under The Name Rolling Stones, With The Collaboration Of Andrew Loog Oldham, Containing Several Alternatives, Unreleased (or discarded) Of The Rolling Stones Relating To TheDecca/London period.
Although This Project Never Materialized And Was Supplanted By More Hot Rocks (Big Hits & Fazed Cookies), Many Of The Previously Unreleased Versions Have Been Set Aside For A Future Project.
In 1974, Just To Give Operation A Semblance Of Bureaucracy, Bill Wyman Undertook To Compile A Compilation That Should Have Been Titled Black Box.
However, Allen Klein Wanted More Mick Jagger / Keith Richards Songs To Be Featured On The Project For Commercial Reasons, And Wyman's Work Was Not Used.
Metamorphosis Was Then Released In His Place Of Him.
The Title And Cover Of The Album, Where An Illustration Shows The Stones Removing A Mask Revealing An Insect, Allude To The Short Story "The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka".
